Medical

alt Polymer Science offers many adhesive options for use within the medical device industry. Differing platforms are utilized to meet the stringent engineering and regulatory concerns within this market segment including acrylics, urethanes and silicones. The adhesive and coated products are specifically formulated to meet the technological challenges found in advanced diagnostic, wound care, ostomy and incontinence care as well as other applications requiring direct skin contact. Products are currently available as single coated, double coated, unsupported and multi-laminate constructions.

Our medical device adhesives and coatings are used in applications such as in-vitro diagnostics and patient monitoring, consumer and professional wound care, scar therapy, device fixation and consumer products requiring skin attachment such as concealment devices. Common chemistries include acrylics and silicone gel pressure sensitive adhesives, but others are also available. Polymer Science, Inc. can provide hydrophilic coatings that prove invaluable as non-intrusive testing such as automated blood chemistry, immunodiagnostics, urinalysis and pregnancy become more predominant. Our design team will work with you to develop your in-vitro diagnostic component.

Wound Care applications include adhesives and coatings that are biocompatible, nonmigratory and latex-free. Ease of removal, breathability and durability are typical properties of acrylic pressure sensitive adhesives specifically developed for this application. Silicone and acrylic adhesives are available in constructions which allow moisture vapor transmission while providing a bacterial barrier. Some configurations are resistant to water reducing the impact of changes due to wrinkling, curling and loss of adhesion during bathing and showering.

Wound Dressing

Polymer Science silicone gel adhesive products offer an economic and technological solution to many healthcare and consumer products requiring direct and longer term skin contact. Silicone gel adhesive constructions offer good wear properties while providing little trauma upon removal from the wound site. An advantage of silicone gel is that it offers atraumatic removal from delicate skin, ideal in applications for neonatal and geriatric patients. Silicone gel pressure sensitive adhesives are ideal for consumer and professional wound care, scar therapy and device fixation applications.

Polymer Science offers converting and packaging for the medical device and consumer markets. Current capabilities include rotary and flat bed die cutting, precision slitting, island dressings and multi-layer laminated products. The products can be assembled by hand or packaged with in-line packaging equipment to your specifications. Polymer Science offers both heat seal and cold seal applications with materials utilizing materials such as metalized polyesters for resistance to light and oxygen, tyvek for strength and paper pouch film materials. Engineers at Polymer Science will work with you to develop a packaging configuration that will meet or exceed the expectations of the downstream consumer.

Wound Dressing

Polymer Science offers unique adhesive platforms including SofsilTM and NeosilTM. SofsilTM and NeosilTM are a silicone gel adhesive fixation tape which is easily torn by hand to the required width and length without the use of scissors. Its primary use is to affix device accessories such as IV tubing, monitoring leads and electrodes to the body by healthcare providers, but may offer an atraumatic option for the protection of surgical sites, dry wound covers, scar therapy or consumer skin attachment applications. The product is commonly offered at a %" width, but may be slit to any desired width.

Polymer Science, Inc. is registered with the FDA as a medical device manufacturer and packager and is cGMP compliant. In addition, Polymer Science is ISO9001 registered and ISO13485 compliant to ensure a consistent and quality product that is both safe and effective for your application. Clean room manufacturing, converting and packaging facilities are available in order to ensure your product is manufactured in an environment to minimize potential contamination.
